Square Enix has released the first trailer for the next game in the Final Fantasy XIII saga, Lightning Returns. Titled “The Final Journey of Lightning,” it is also known as the Jump Festa 2013 trailer.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII sees the return of Lightning in a world that only has 13 days left before total annihilation. The trailer and screenshots released offer a first look at the more action-orientated combat system where the player has direct control of the character. Also introduced is the divine city of Light and prayer, Luxerion, where Lightning will encounter new enemies and monsters.
Lightning Returns also sees the return of composers Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta, and Mitsuto Suzuki whom all worked on Final Fantasy XIII-2. The track used in the trailer, “Crimson Blitz,” will be available on iTunes on December 23rd for $0.99.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be available in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and can be pre-ordered now.
