Talk about hearing the unexpected! In a very unusual turn of events, it would seem that Square Enix has released a new countdown for the classic tri-Ace/Enix series – Star Ocean. The last game to see a release in this series was Star Ocean The Last Hope, which was released in 2009 for Xbox 360 and in 2010 for PS3.
What points this to Star Ocean though? For those who don’t know, the Star Ocean series is heavily based on “space exploration.” The background of the website features two planets. The URL of the site also has the word “liftoff” in it, along with the word “STAR” being on the top right corner of the page.
If this does indeed turn out to be Star Ocean 5, it may just make use of tri-Ace’s tech demo which featured things from the previous titles in the series.
Whether this turns out to be Star Ocean 5 or simply a mobile port of one of the Star Ocean titles (likely either Star Ocean 1 or 2 which were re-released on PSP several years ago), we will keep you informed as the countdown ticks down to 12/12/12.
